No, walk-ins or same-day appointments cannot be scheduled with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). If there is an immediate threat to physical safety, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are not experiencing an immediate threat to physical safety, but need immediate counseling, please either dial or text the National Suicide or Crisis Line at 988 or contact one of the crisis or suicide prevention lines listed on the EAP website.
Yes. Our therapists provide telehealth appointments via SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant and secure system designed for health and wellness professionals, that works similarly to other video conferencing platforms.
To request an appointment online, visit the Request an Appointment page on the EAP website. You will be asked to log in with your GatorLink credentials to access the scheduling system. This information is only used to verify your employee eligibility.
To request an appointment over the phone, call the Employee Assistance program at 352-273-1765. Please keep in mind that our therapists’ schedules are often booked in advance, so there may be a wait for available appointments.
Please call 352-273-1765 or message your counselor through the SimplePractice messaging platform in the app. Counselors allow a 15-minute grace period for clients to arrive. After 15 minutes, the client is considered a no-show and the session is cancelled. If you expect to arrive more than 15 minutes late, your appointment will need to be rescheduled, as the full 45-minute session cannot be accommodated, and another client will be scheduled afterward.
Your privacy is important to us. Your supervisor will not be notified of your session or have access to your medical information. When scheduling an appointment online, you are required to authenticate via your GatorLink solely for eligibility verification purposes. Similarly, when scheduling an appointment over the phone, we will ask for either your UFID or UF email address to confirm EAP eligibility.
When a workplace incident requires Employee Relations to step in, they’ll meet with you to review what happened and discuss next steps, which might include having you meet with an EAP therapist to talk through the incident in a safe, confidential setting.
The EAP is a HIPAA-compliant program, ensuring the privacy of our patients’ medical information. When you attend a mandated EAP session, your personal and medical information will remain confidential unless your therapist believes you pose a serious and imminent threat to yourself or to the health or safety of others.
As part of the mandated session, you will need to sign a release of information form authorizing the therapist to disclose your attendance to the Employee Relations office. The letter of attendance will only confirm that you met with an EAP therapist and will include any needed recommendations for a successful return to work.
We recommend arriving 15 minutes early. This gives you time to find parking, locate the building and settle in before your session.
When you schedule your appointment, you will receive an email from SimplePractice containing your appointment details and required paperwork. If you don’t see the email from yourprovider@simplepractice.com, please check your junk or spam folder, as some clients have reported emails being filtered. Please complete and submit all required paperwork at least 24 hours before your appointment. All documents must be completed online through SimplePractice. Your therapist will not be able to see you if the required paperwork is incomplete.
To access your telehealth appointment, you will need to download the SimplePractice app to your phone via the App Store or via Google Play, or to your desktop directly from your SimplePractice online account. We recommend you select a private location for your appointment and log in ten minutes before your appointment to test that everything is working.
Please note that due to security constraints, UF computers might not let you download the SimplePractice telehealth app to your desktop. If this is the case, you will need to use your personal computer or your phone.

A map with parking and office locations will be emailed to you after you schedule your appointment. If you have any difficulty finding your therapist’s office, please call 352-273-1765 for guidance.
You will receive a reminder of your appointment through your chosen communication method (email or text message). This reminder will also provide the option to manually cancel or reschedule prior to your session.
Cancellations through SimplePractice can be made up to 24 hours in advance. If you are unable to cancel or reschedule through the system, please call the office at 352-273-1765 or message your counselor directly through the SimplePractice messaging platform.
Our therapists’ schedules are typically booked several weeks in advance, and we can’t guarantee availability for same-day rescheduling.
If you’re in distress and need immediate assistance, please know that support is available 24/7 through the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Call, text or chat with a 988 Lifeline counselor for help. If there’s an immediate risk to your physical safety or someone else’s, please call 911.
You can reach your therapist directly through SimplePractice using the secure messaging function. When you log in, you’ll see it as a small bell icon. This is a convenient way to stay connected between sessions.
Therapists check messages during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and replies may take up to 24 hours. The messaging system is not monitored 24/7 and should not be used for emergencies. If you’re in a crisis, please call 911 or the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

Yes, couples counseling and individual counseling are considered two separate events and can be scheduled concurrently. Couples counseling appointments are scheduled with therapist Devin Shorey.
Yes. We have a Spanish-speaking therapist, and the EAP also works with a professional translation service to accommodate patients based on their preferred language. If you would like to schedule a session in a language other than English, please let your therapist know at least two business days in advance so they can prepare for your session.
Our therapists provide therapeutic support but are not able to prescribe medications. We can provide you with a list of psychiatrists vetted by our UF EAP counselors who can assist you with medications. You can also check with your insurance provider for in-network psychiatrists in your area.
